With annual sales of more than 6 billion yuan ($850, 000, 000 USD) in 2017, Huadong Medicine Co.,Ltd, along with its subsidiaries, is one of China’s leading pharmaceutical companies focused on the research and development of organ transplantation and diabetes drugs.
Recently Huadong initiated phase II of its Jiangdong project, which specializes in the production of acarbose drug products, polypeptide diabetes drugs, and super antibiotics. The project, costing over 2.25 billion yuan, comprises an R&D center and an office administration center. The production center incorporates a broad range of equipment, as well as storage, power, and environmental systems. After completion, the company estimates an annual average sales volume up to 4 billion yuan.
In drug production, timing is everything
The goal of the Huadong Medicine phase II project is to monitor many different complex production process alarms so that the right people can respond quickly in case of an emergency. Timely response to alarms is crucial. But even more critical is getting the person with the right expertise to fix the problem. That’s where WIN-911 really shines.
WIN-911 helps staff shift to proactive mode
WIN-911’s software has been a reliable assistant to the on-site maintenance staff. Technicians now spend less time focusing on a multitude of complex alarms and events and more on preventative maintenance of production equipment.
With its direct connect to the facility’s Rockwell FactoryTalk SCADA, staff can monitor all of the alarm event information from one convenient interface. The team uses SMS text notifications to monitor tens of thousands of alarm points across all processes on the production line. These alerts are preconfigured to go to the right person at the right time for fast problem resolution.
"WIN-911, in addition to making our alarm notifications less dependent on staff, has made our alarm handling process more organized," said Mr. Zhang Yong, who is in charge of the fermentation process. “With WIN-911, we no longer have to spend as much time reviewing problems in the control room, because now all of our equipment alarm workflows are automated. Instead, staff can focus their efforts on the most important preventative maintenance tasks."
