Director of HR / People Operations

SmartSights develops alarm management and industrial reporting software used by manufacturers, utilities, and critical infrastructure operators worldwide. We are a PE-backed, growing software company at a stage where the people side of the business is as important as the product side.

We are looking for a Director of HR / People Operations to serve as the company’s HR leader, reporting directly to the CEO.

• Lead the full HR function: talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, compensation and benefits, compliance, and employee relations
• Drive culture and engagement strategy for a ~65 person PE-backed software company navigating its next phase of growth
• Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and leadership on people issues, emphasizing coaching and development alongside policy
• Design and implement engagement practices that produce meaningful insight and measurable outcomes
• Partner with leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, and retention strategy
• Ensure compliance across federal and state employment law, including for distributed employees
• Collaborate with outside employment counsel on complex matters as needed

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as an HR business partner at a technology company
• Experience in a leadership role with the judgment and track record to support it
• Comfortable operating independently across both strategic and tactical work
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate sensitive conversations with professionalism and discretion
• Self-aware and resourceful — willing to leverage outside expertise when a situation warrants it
• PE-backed or M&A experience is a plus
• PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP preferred but not required
